Antique Bakery 05

There are some things that are better said with subs.

One night, Eiji was sleeping in the boxing hall where he lived when he was still a boxer. It seems that the other boxers, who are placed under a strict diet in order to maintain their weight, sneak in his room to sniff at him because he “smells so good”. That morning, Eiji packed up and told his boxing coach that he will be picking up some of his stuff later in day, saying that he can’t stay in the place anymore since he’s no longer a boxer. His coach mutters that he can.

Anyway, Ono and Eiji were discussing his move and he should say something to Tachibana. Eiji said that it’s nt necessary because he’s still a trainee. Then Tachibana excitedly ordered the two of them to be on their first form because Odaiba TV is coming.

So if you put hungry boxers with a patissier…

Odaiba TV is s a station that will televise and sponsor a cake buffet in a department store and they are going to be checking out Antique if they can  participate. Ono started panicking because he’s not akin to dealing with women. He’s working behind the scenes and Tachibana was the one who interacted most with the ladies of Odaiba TV. Upon tasting the cassis mousse, they officially invited Antique to join the cake buffet.

The plan was that Tachibana and Ono will be manning the booth in the cake buffet while Eiji and Chikage will stay in the store. And when they came to set up, they were treated with hostility by the other vendors because of Ono’s presence. One even came forward to confront him and called him a fag, but he was defended by Eiji to say that he’s gay, not a fag. Tachibana screamed at the two fo them that it was all in past so they should just forget about it.

What happens is…

On the day of the cake buffest, Tachibana got a sty, meaning he will not be in the cake buffet to serve the customers so Chikage will be going with Ono instead. Ono and Chikage are both inept with interacting with people and they were both very nervous because Chikage was a moron who has been told by one of the organizers to remove his sunglasses when serving customers and Ono is terrified of women.

But when he saw Chikage when he removed his sunglasses, Ono became inspired and borrowed an earring from on of the Odaiba TV girls and all the fujoshiswomen customers went wild. A trick that Ono taught Chikage with dealing with customer is to answer “If you’d have one, you’ll understand” whenever asked what a specific cake was like. Needless to say, Antique’s booth in the cake buffet was a big success.

Back in Antique, Eiji was struggling to make a cassis mouse, but is constantly failing because it keeps on separating, which mean big trouble since it was near opening time. Tachibana instructed him to call Ono but Eiji was determined to do it on his own because if he didn’t, Ono would lose a little faith in him. After remembering a particular step, Eiji was able to successfully finish the cassis mousse just in time for opening.

…something so wrong on so many levels.

When the man who found Tachibana when he was kidnapped as a child came by to buy another cassis mousee, Eiji asked Tachibana if he started to cake shop in order to catch the guy who kidnapped him. Tachibana thought about it for a while and said that he didn’t know why he started the shop. Then Eiji agreed that they all not sure why they are there.

After a successful day, the four celebrated with champagne and Eiji saw his boxing coach loitering outside. When he came up to speak with him, his coach said that he wanted to taste a cake that he made. But Eiji told him that he didn’t even like cake and he was still a trainee. But Tachibana came up to them and asked his coach to come in and that Eiji is no longer a trainee. When the coach was seated, Tachibana asked Eiji to prepare the cassis mousse for the coach. Coach said that it sure beats ramenit was delicious, Tachibana bragged that it was Eiji who made it. Anyway, the coach asked him if he still wanted to come back to the live in the boxing hall’s dorm but Eiji declined. Tehn Ono informed Tachibana that Eiji just moved out and was looking for a place to stay. Tachibana then told him that Eiji can have the upstairs room but he has to work doubly hard for the bakery.

That night, the long suffering dieting boxers went to sniff at the coach.

Contrary to popular belief, you cannot deviate from a recipe when it comes to baking – especially cream-based ones. Unlike conventional cooking where you can add on or omit an ingredient, baking is an exact science where the combination of the ingredients impact the end result, which is why soufflés fall and breads don’t rise. You have to be really, really familiar with a specific recipe to modify it. I learned that terrible lesson when I was nine when I attempted to make my first chocolate cake.

Anyway, I like this episode because it’s filled with lots of cake pr0n and less geh-ey – thought the ever-present overtures are there. I don’t know if the goal of the show is any more… especially if it’s not meant to be yaoi. So I am just taking it one episode at a time and enjoying the ride. But damn… I wanna go to a cake buffet in the Peninsula. -_-

@issa-sa: actually, i had the same reaction when learnt that CHEMISTRY WTF!? but yeah, it’s like that i realized when i started becoming arrogant and started modifying recipes and didn’t get the same result as the time when i was succcessful.

ROFL! this episode is proof that dieting sucks though i admire the boxers’ tenacity to resist their urges. i have too little restraint for baked goods!

@xephfyre: there are just some things where subs are necessary!
