Itazura na Kiss 18 ~Ill-Tempered Triangle~

The most friction this episode had.  -_-”’

Kotoko was studying out loud saying that Keita will shout at him if she doesn’t do well. When Irie-mama said that Naoki should help her out with studying, he told her that he didn’t have the kind of free time.

The most blood shed in this episode is inside that vial. And it’s Keita’s!

The next day at school, Naoki and Kotoko were having lunch at school talking about a Veni- (Oh hell, I ain’t good with medical stuff) a nursing practical of drawing out blood when the girls, the trap and Keita interrupted by sitting on the same table as them. While everyone was fighting over who will be Tomoko’s partner, who was good at such things, Keita just said that he’d partner with Kotoko, which earned the sympathy of everyone, including Naoki.

In the practical, Kotoko was having such a hard time getting the needle through Keita and Tomoko’s concern for made Kotoko think that she likes him. When Naoki came to collect the blood samples, the professor said that they were not done yet and saw that Kotoko was with Keita and the girls and he just left. When she was finally done, Keita accompanied her to bring the vial to Naoki, who scolded Kotoko for taking too long. Keita got pissed and defended Kotoko’s hard work, but Kotoko said that it was alright.

For some reason, I wish this led to a fistfight.

After that (a couple of days later I presume) that they will be observing an autopsy and will be studying internal organs. Kotoko was trying to get Tomoko in the way of Keita so in case Tomoko fainted, Keita will be there for her. But as it turned out, Tomoko was only interested in the corpse’s internal organs. And it was Kotoko who ended up fainting near Keita and he rushed her to the infirmary.

Other med students saw Keita carrying Kotoko to the infirmary and told Naoki He got there just in time to see Keita in the act of almost kissing Kotoko. When Keita turned to leave, Naoki told him not to do lay a hand on someone else’s wife. Keita answered back that he cares for Kotoko than he did then left. Naoki was looking after Kotoko while she slept when he was called in by a professor and left. And Kotoko woke up and went back to the classroom just as her friends were talking about seeing her before they left. But she was still a little woozy so they asked Keita to walk her home. When Naoki came back to the infirmary, Kotoko was not there anymore.

Awww.. Kotoko is just lonely and needy as always.

On their way home, Kotoko and Keita bumped into Irie-mama who walked Kotoko the rest of the way home. After dinner, Irie-mama scolded Naoki for not caring enough to look after Kotoko. But all Naoki answered is that she will never become a nurse if she keeps fainting like that. Later in bed, she starts thinking that although things that Naoki tells her about being a responsible nurse are true, she wished that he would show her that he cared even just a little.

Irie-mama smelled a rat and the next day, she came to investigate Keita. Based on reports and her own encounter with Keita, she realizes that Kotoko may leave them because Keita is the perfect man compared to her cold-hearted son.

LOL at Irie-mama realizing that Kotoko’s perfect man may not be her own son! And that she even said that she would choose Keita over Naoki.

Keita told Kotoko about his encounter with her mother-in-law and Motoki came depressed when she got dumped by her Internet boyfriend when he realized that Motoki was a trap. When marina announced that they should all go drinking to sympathize with Motoki, Kotoko tried to beg off but they said that it should be ok if she asked permission from her husband. And when she asked him, he told her to do whatever she wanted and that she didn’t have to ask him about every little thing.

Later that night, Keita asked Kotoko why she married Naoki and told her that he thinks that he didn’t love her. Kotoko felt bad about it and excused herself for the night. Keita ran after her and told Kotoko to leave Naoki and be with him.

Homewrecker!!!

Alright! Marital discord! OK fine… I’m cheering for the wrong thing. But lemme do a little Whose-side-am-I-on tennis match.

Am I betraying womanhood by empathizing with Naoki??? Naoki is being such a considerate hubby to Kotoko. I mean, he lets her do as she pleases and tells her make decisions for herself – just as much as he does. In short, he wants her to be independent. That’s a plus on my books. The thing is… the only problem with him is that he has the interpersonal skills of a turnip. Because of that, he can’t express himself that well when it comes to feelings and other junk like that, which is disastrous because he’s married to someone as emotionally needy as Kotoko. While no one would be able to refute that he’s in love with Kotoko, he’s simply not the type of guy who has expectations of marrying a girl and live in other’s pockets. In other words, his expectation is independence – not just to himself, but for her too.

Whereas Kotoko high interpersonal skills and likes to express her feelings a lot that if she didn’t expect reciprocation, she would at least get a reply. When she doesn’t get what she expects, she takes it as the cold shoulder. Though I disagree with her decision to shift careers simply because she wanted to be a wife fit for Naoki, I actually admire her determination, which made me think that she is too dependent on Naoki’s actions. But I also agree that Naoki should at least give some inclination that he cares about her and not just tell her to do whatever she wants. I’m not saying that he should go tutor her every time she needs to study, but just give her what she wants, which is nothing more than a little encouragement.

Aww hell… what’s with all the over analysis??? It’s Itazura na Kiss! Naoki just has to stop being a jealous tool and realize that Kotoko is too madly in love with him to even consider any other guy and they can live happily ever after. And finally get around making babies.

On a more personal note: I totally empathize with Keita. Kotoko reminds me of that bitch nurse who drew my blood on a physical and couldn’t find my blood vein. After four attemptes, I ended up with bruises all over my left arm.

Next time:

Kotoko turns into a raging alcoholic. Maybe. No matter how predictable this anime is, I still don’t know what will happen… ^^

Can’t say you can really side with anyone here, it’s kinda obvious why one side is acting like they are when you put it that way i.e. Naoki can’t be as openly lovey dovey as Kotoko wants (needs?), Kotoko is still Kotoko (*shakes head… lol*), and Keita just got his “Save damsel in distress!” switch flipped. Would be interesting to have Kotoko as a raging alcoholic though XD (just keep her away from them needles…)

@issa-sa: yep! you’re right… can’t get on anyone’s side. they both have their points and their faults. and it SHOULD turn interesting if kotoko turns into a raging alcoholic. but i doubt it :D

  3. [...] all, I have no idea what Irie is thinking, not that the directors show much of his thoughts anyway. Some people have suggested that he’s just trying to build Kotoko up, but theres the right way; and then [...]
