Antique Bakery 10

Gaykery: Not so gay anymore except for some random jokes.
.
Tachibana was having a dream about the time he was kidnapped and how he stabbed his kidnapper on the leg to make his escape. Antique released a new cake called an Anja, which sold well. One of their regulars bought three but only she and her delusional husband lived in their household. Apparently, the husband is delusional, still thinking that his son that died twenty years before was still alive and that he would give him cake. The wife begged him to go to another part of the country, but she was threatened at knifepoint. Police were investigating another kidnapping case when their forensic team confirmed that the stomachs of the murdered kidnapped children had ingredients that would be made enough for a cake. One of the more senior investigators knew a man who would be able to help them. This ended up being the investigator who worked on Tachibana’s case and a regular customer of Antique since they’re the only shop that sold Anjas. They came to Antique and asked Tachibana and told him about the investigation and the connection of his shop’s cakes. Then and thee, Tachibana started to realize that the reason why he started the shop was for this day – to help with the investigation in the hopes of drawing out the kidnapper.
As a side story, Ono’s sister, who he hasn’t seen in ten years, came to shop to invite him to her wedding. He hasn’t been home in ten years after he came out. But he had other issues with his mother. He found her and a teacher he was really in love with in bed together. He never told his sister about it. But apparently, she never told him about the affairs their father had. This was never resolved, probably in the next episode.

Shit… I always wanted to make something like this. If only berries were not expensive…

The story of this show has started becoming interesting plot-wise since episode 8. Sure, it’s still slice-of-life. But there story has been developing more and more. Of course, when I read the premise of the story, I always thought that it would be rooted somehow to the time when Tachibana was kidnapped, but I thought they would end up tapping more into the slice-of-life aspects. I can say that I’m pleasantly surprised with the development of the story. But as most detective shows I’ve seen in the past, I somehow foresee a cheesy ending with the kidnapper guy being hauled off to some mental institution and the four boys staying in their cake shop having a gay ol’ time… terrible pun.

Hmm, having seen the ending, I’m not sure if you’ll be disappointed or satisfied. And how typical that Ono has a screwed up household to blame problems on (not that he actually did, thankfully)
