Natsume Yuujinchou 12 ~The Five-Day Mark~

What the hell? Is this the kind of conversation men have??? Why don’t they just talk about it while brushing each other’s hair???

Now that’s more like it.

It’s almost autumn and they are talking about going to the damn together. When Natsume was placed in charge of sandwiches that Tohko-san would prepare, Natsume just told them that it would be hard getting a lunch on a day-off. But one of his friends told him that Tohko-san would be glad to make them for him. When they parted ways, Natsume ended up saving a frog (recurring character) from a web, where he ended up encountering a spirit eating another spirit. The spirit smelled him and tried to eat him, but was only able to grab his arm leaving a mark.

Waii! Pocket Madara. So cuuuuuuuuute!

When Nyanko tried to touch it, he ended up turning into a Pocket Madara, declaring Natsume as cursed. At his present state, he would be unable to protect Natsume so he asked him to find another bodyguard for him through the Yuujinchou. But the limitations places his only option to be Misuzu, a youkai from a past episode who Natsume was not able to give a name back because his power was drained. Misuzu doesn’t have any knowledge much on curses so he will summon another spirit who would be able to help him, but warned him that he shouldn’t show any weakness of the heart in front of the spirit where his questioning went to Natsume’s encounters with the youkai as compensation for his loneliness.

Personally, I would prefer giving a fingernail. I’ll just head to the nail salon, have a manicure and just get remnants of my fingernail. That would work too, right?

Anyway, Misuzu summoned a femiNazi youkai named Hinoe, who simply adores Reiko and was disgusted to find out that she was dead and the same scent has been given to Natsume. But she was bound to help Natsume so she did. She was the one who explained to Natsume that what he had was the five-day mark, where the wound would slowly eat him away. She said that she will be looking into it and asked him to go home. On his way home, he noticed a black shadow on the way, but Nyanko assured him that it wasn’t a spirit. When he got home, Tohko-san was worried at the sight of his bandaged arm, but he got away on time.

Ooh, heat. Then there would have been some yuri action if Natsume was still gender-bending???

The next day ont eh way to school, he noticed that the dark figure was standing outside his house and he commented that it was a lot like Merry-san, a story of a ghost who would slowly declare that he/she is slowly coming in the person he/she was haunting from the gate to the front door. And true enough, when he got home, the dark figure was standing outside his front door. Hinoe came around and told him that it’s the shadow of the ayakashi that gave him the mark and that if it touched him, he will die. Then Nyanko grew too big, which meant that the curse was making his powers unstable. He went to sleep and snuck out where Nyanko was (because he was big and can’t be at home). The next morning, the shadow was already inside his house.

Damnit. This show has pwned me again. After watching this for the last two episodes in broad daylight, I thought this episode would be fine. And now they give me a black thingamabob that wants to feed on you. Yuh… this is the first thing I wanna see when I open my eyes when I wake up in the middle of the night. Damn you, Natsume Yuujinchou!!!

After school, he called home and said that he will not be coming home for the next three days and that he will be staying over a friend’s house. When he got out, Hinoe asked him if he was that attached to humans, to which he admitted that he has become attached to them where he only want to protect them and wanted to be kind, just like them. Then Hinoe proposed that he summons a shiki, which is a spiritual being that has the power to exorcise ayakashis. He gave him a scroll, which she took back when he went to sleep where he thought about how much he wanted to go home. He woke up to the shadow opening its mouth to eat him. he tried to look for the scroll but it wasn’t around. He tried to run away and Hinoe got to him just in time where he was able to summon a Shiki which was a small bird, but it was powerful enough to make the ayakashi disappear.

When Natsume came to, Hinoe told him that he hated people who couldn’t treasure themselves because they want to protect and didn’t want to be a bother to others. Then it turned out that Misuzu was testing Natsume if he was worthy to be his master, which he wasn’t but he has taken a liking for him. But admitted that he didn’t like being summoned. When he was trying to sneak in, he was caught and scolded by Tohko-san for making her worry. But he it nice since it meant that where he was that time was a warm place where important people are found.

So what? It kicked ass.

Thoughts:

Actually this episode reminded me so much of xxx-HOLiC from the spiderweb (which was nearly insignificant) to the bird shiki. Of course, their purpose were different from HOLiC, but I thought of it through the episode. But seriously, after two episodes of non-creepy stuff, this episode gave me quite a scare. I normally have the habit of watching this episode during the daytime because there are times when I watch it in the wee hours of the morning and I get really paranoid about typing in the dark with only a hall light on.

I enjoyed this episode very much because this is the first episode that presented a malevolent spirit coming after Natsume – not the insignificant one that’s just a plot device to give the episode a sense of action. And he fact that Natsume was actually starting to see home and friends as something that he should embrace, not run away from because he’s afraid of being turned away. The thing is, the people that have been surrounding him has been able to accept him – if not for the fact that he’s hiding his secret powers from them.

Anyway, I was really excited when it was announced that Zoku Natsume Yuujinchou is going to premiere in the winter. I love this show~!!! \O/
