The Drop List for Fall 08
Posted by biankita on November 22, 2008
It’s been roughly six weeks since Fall 08 began. The line-up for this season is promising and I did pick up more than I can handle based on premise alone. But it has been six weeks. It’s about time to weed out the shows that are not worth watching anymore.
.
Akane-iro ni Somaru Saka (barely 6 episodes)

Amazing this crap lasted me 5 ½ episodes.
I actually can’t believe that I last six episodes of this – a first when it comes to otome games-based shows. I actually thought that this is going to be first one I will be able to finish but of course, it doesn’t turn out to be as interesting as I thought it would be. As I said, I don’t really have anything against these types of shows, it’s just never able to hold my interest for long. Between the Nanatsuiro Drops-inspired titles, the dry scenarios and unoriginal Da Capo-like girls, the only thing that was making me watch this show is because I like the male lead Junichi likeable compared to male leads in the genre.
.
Jigoku Shoujo Mitsuganae (5 episodes of 12)

Moe death loli really doesn’t cut it for me anymore.
This season of Jigoku Shoujo has turned out to be such a disappointment for me. While I thought about finishing this season since I watched the first two seasons anyway, I’m finding the scenarios per episode to be more WTF than interesting. And as much as I enjoy WTFs as much as the next person, this is more of a WTF because of the lameness rather than the actually “OMGWTFBBQ!” variety. Also, I think that this show is starting to become more of a fanservice show.
.
Kuroshitsuji (5 episodes)

Yes I know that. And you’re faaabulous!!! But what else???
I really didn’t know what to expect when I first saw this show. But it’s already been five episodes of nothing but Sebastian’s fabulousness and still no semblance of story. I just think that it too filled with too much random plots. Well yeah… I’m not one to complain about randomness because I really enjoyed Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei and Hidamari Sketch X365. But considering this plot should actually have a plot, it’s still not showing up. Well yeah, after five episodes, they already exposed Madam Red as Jack the Ripper along with Griel as her shinigami, what I am actually after is some kind of enhancement to the pact that Ciel made with Sebastian. I just grew tired of looking forward to… something.
.
Tethering At The Edge…
Casshern SINS (7 episodes)

EMO… ;A; I destroyed the world. I can’t die. But I’m still awesome.
I am not sure if waiting for this show week after week is worth it. I’m wondering if I should just drop this show or wait for the season to end before watching it. Don’t get me wrong, the show is awesome – great visuals, interesting take on the character, and insightful. But every episode is more and more like watching/reading of Tsubasa Chronicles where I ask “Where is he going next and who is he going to meet?” The only difference between watching this and Kuroshitsuji is that at least I get answers little by little, but isn’t it a little too little every single time? Casshern stumbles, learn the nature of the things he meets along the way that are waiting for their ruin, Casshern becomes mortally wounded but doesn’t die because he’s just built that way. The progress is just too much at a snails’s pace..

I don’t think Casshern SINS is about the destination. Just saying.

How could you drop Akasaka? It’s so awesome!

on my list, I dropped Tytania, Skip Beat, and Ga-rei. oh well…

KYAASHAARN!
It is actually pretty good, but maybe the pace is just not for you? You could always wait till it finishes and catch it at one go.

@Owen_S: i realized that. i think my expectations of casshern was different so i think the show’s turning slow on me.
@icystorm: i’m just really not into that genre. other than school days (which the universal exception) and true tears (which never really took the harem road), i have never completed a harem anime before.
@rollchan: couldn’t get past the first 15 minutes of tytania. ga-rei was almost dropped til kurogane pointed out that tooru and natsuki had a cameo in episode 7 (still waiting for subs). and skip beat… i am really finding the adaptation kinda bland and honestly prefer the manga. -_-”’ but i’m still enjoying the show.
@panther: will probably go down that road. it’s a pretty good show and i still want to watch it.

Why drop Casshern!? It’s more about the experiences of the “people” in a world teetering on the edge of destruction than the overarching storyline.

@omisyth still not sure if i’m gonna be dropping it. to be honest, i’m not sure what till be the kicker because at the back of my mind, what it’s all about is pretty good.

If I were to make a post with my dropped fall anime, it would be fckin’ long. Longer than longcat.

But there are only 7 eps of JSM left! It’s too late to turn back.
kanzeon said
Oww… JSM is starting to get good imo. And it’s sad that you dropped Kuroshitsuji T.T. Btw, it’s good to hear that you’re still continuing Skip Beat ^_^.
My garbage bin (which I watched 2 or more episodes of them) contains SB!, Tytania, Akane-iro, Chaos;Head, Shikabane Hime and Bihada Ichizoku XDD (yes, I resisted 2 episodes of it)…
I don’t know about Ga-Rei anymore because I really miss the first batch of characters T.T

@Kairu Ishimaru: I picked up a lot of anime this season. But not so much that I my drop list and my watchlist would be that long.
@baka-raptor: i’m tempted. maybe. the shows that i frequently watch take too long to be subbed.
@kanzeon: skip beat – as much as i enjoy the manga more than the anime will continue to be on my watch list. ga-rei is awesome! well… actually, i was going to drop it then kurogane posted that tooru and natsuki made a cameo on an episode. XD

Lol, I never liked Jigoku Shoujo and animes like Akaneiro ni Somaru Saka…:X
Yeah, I get it about the Kuroshitsuji’s one. The first episode which suppose to be the introduction of the story doesn’t have a story, and spanning 5 episodes without one is…meh, lol
Haven’t seen Casshern yet, but most likely will. :3
(Hopefully it’ll tell more stuff in the later episode. XD)

I honestly think fabulous is a good enough reason to keep watching a show. Isn’t that why we all finished Code Geass anyway?
biankita said
@kona: casshern is great! i never dropped it.
@shin: you have a point. mmm….
